EWU football camp, Day 9

I will file a full story shortly, but here's a short report on the Eagles' practice on Tuesday: The intensity level and the heat made for a "choppy" practice said head coach Beau Baldwin, who added that "every team in the country is in the same boat" in mid-August.

Coaches mixed in more situation drills, especially running drills, with the defense having the upper hand, although RB Demitrius Bronson looked tough again. A lot of running drills this week (here is a video, actually shot on Monday, of an "Oklahoma" drill in which three blockers try to block three defenders while a running back looks for an opening) With temperatures in the mid-90s, trainers are taking extra precautions to avoid dehydrations, said EWU head athletic trainer Brian Norton. “Players are weighed before and after practice,” said Norton, and if they lose weight, “they have to gain that back the next day. Norton added that water is fine, but that the training staff also pushes Gatorade and other sources of electrolytes and sodium. … Norton added that the Eagles have been fortunate with injuries so far. However, four running backs – Jordan Talley, Cody Hecker, Mario Brown and Jabari Wilson – were held out of Tuesday’s session as a precaution. Linebacker Jordan Pulu may return soon after an MRI showed only a minor meniscus injury.
