Recapping Portland on a Sunday

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN -- If we covered the SEC, there'd be a really good football team to talk about this morning. But we don't. There is basketball news, though, so read on.

...

In today's newspaper, we have our game story from WSU's 72-60 win over Portland last night. We had our usual tale of the tape on the blog, as well as a post with WSU Athetlcs' video of the postgame press conferences. ... Howie Stalwick had this story in the Kitsap Sun. ... Here's the AP story.

Around the Pac-12 ... UCLA lost again, this time 78-69 to No. 25 San Diego State at home. ... Oregon became the most recent Pac-12 team to smash Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 80-59. ... Evan Gordon's career-high 29 points lifted Arizona State past Sacramento State, 90-70. ... Arizona dominated Texas Tech in an 85-57 blowout in Lubbock. ... Some blunt comments from Tad Boyle after Colorado was upset, 76-69 in Wyoming. ... The comments on this story seem a bit resentful, but I thought Gordon Monson did a good job writing about the life of former Utah coach Rick Majerus, who died Saturday at 64. Another Majerus story in the Deseret News. ... Percy Allen with a feature on C.J. Wilcox.

In football news ... Oregon State closed out the Pac-12 season (minus bowls) with a 77-3 squeaker over Nicholls State. ... Assistants are running Cal's football program right now. ... The speculation in the California coaching search is heating up. ... More on Colorado's coaching search. ... Monte Kiffin said there was no pressure on him to leave USC.

That's it for today.
