MOSCOW, Idaho – Mike Levenseller will reunite with Robb Akey and become Idaho’s offensive coordinator, a source told The Spokesman-Review.

Levenseller’s hiring, first reported by, has not been made official by the Vandals. They will likely wait until after the online job announcement for the position expires Friday.

Levenseller will replace Steve Axman, who retired as the Vandals’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in December. Receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Luther Carr also is no longer part of Akey’s staff.

Levenseller was wide receivers coach at Washington State from 1992 to 2011. He also served as the Cougars’ offensive coordinator from 2001 to 2006 under Mike Price and Bill Doba. He and Akey coached together in Pullman for eight seasons.

Other former Cougar players or coaches on the UI staff are running backs coach Jason Gesser, offensive line coach John McDonell, cornerbacks coach Torey Hunter and secondary/special teams coach Patrick Libey, who was a graduate assistant at WSU.

Before he retired, Axman’s base annual salary was $130,083.20 at Idaho, according to an Idaho State Controller’s Office report released on Jan. 6.
