EWU and the Big Sky

It was a frustrating ending to regulation play for EWU last Saturday at Reese Court. Eastern had just gone ahead by three points with 16 seconds left against Portland State. But PSU's Lateef McMullan raced down the court hit a three to force overtime, and EWU eventually fell 78-76 in overtime.

It was the Eagles' second straight heartbreaker in Big Sky play, so Coach Jim Hayford will have to rally the troops this week for a big homestand this week against Montana and Montana State. The Eags need at least a split to stay solidly in the race for the postseason tournament. Montana is coming off a 29-point win against Sacramento State, and scored a season-high 85 points in the process. Here is the follow-up story from the Missoulian. Meanwhile, here's a nice Associated Press story on 70-year-old NAU head coach Dave Brown, who stepped in last month after the sudden resignation of Mike Adras.
