Brock Motum named first-team All Pac-12, Most Improved

COUGARS

FROM LOS ANGELES — The Pac-12 has announced its end-of-season awards, and a quartet of WSU selections is highlighted by Brock Motum, who was named first-team all-conference and also won the Pac-12 Most Improved award. We have more on the jump.

This is not a surprising revelation, given the way Motum carried the Cougars this season. He averaged 18.1 points per game — just behind Jared Cunningham for the Pac-12 scoring crown — and 6.1 rebounds. Those 18.1 points accounted for 26.5 percent of WSU's total scoring. That's by far the biggest scoring impact a Pac-12 player made on his team this season. Motum is the first WSU player to be named first-team all-conference since … last season. Klay Thompson, etc. etc. … Reggie Moore, as we suspected, was named honorable mention after leading the Pac-12 in assists with 5.8 per game. … DaVonte Lacy didn't make the all-freshman team, but he was an honorable mention for that squad, his late-season swoon likely costing him a spot on the actual team. … Marcus Capers was named as an honorable mention to the all-defensive team.

Jorge Gutierrez of California was named Pac-12 Player of the Year. Washington's Lorenzo Romar is Coach of the Year. Gutierrez also won Defensive Player of the Year, and UW's Tony Wroten won Freshman of the Year.
