AFL strike over? Already?

Just about the time I was hitting the pillow late last night at the conclusion of the Cal-Colorado Pac-12 tournament game, it appears AFL players union executive director Ivan Soto put out another tweet:

"Work stoppage over all players instructed to go back to work, those that stood tall, THANK YOU! Details forthcoming next week! : )"

Soto then issued 33 more tweets that really don't add much clarity to the situation. Soto said the Pittsburgh/Orlando players were ready to play, but Power owner Matt Shaner over-reacted and fired the team, forcing the AFLPU to call for a strike. He tweets the 12-14 players that ended up leaving the union and playing Friday night were coerced into signing new contracts. He tweets that the AFL has committed numerous National Labor Relations Board violations. He even tweets that Shaner sent a derogatory tweet presumably to ex-Shock quarterback Kyle Rowley (projected Power starter).

(UPDATE 8:15 a.m.: Exchanged texts this morning with Shock majority owner Brady Nelson, who says it appears there's an accord, but the owners will discuss matters on a conference call this afternoon.)

Soto doesn't specify if a short-term or long-term resolution has been reached. He was trying for a 3- to 4-week settlement Friday afternoon.  Union leadership can't even seem to agree on whether it was a strike (Soto's tweet Friday afternoon) or a work stoppage (Soto's tweet late Friday night) or neither, according another union official Steve Watson (see link below).

What is known is that both sides didn't look good last night. With 12-14 players shrugging off the union and playing last night, it indicates solidarity wasn't too strong. And the Pittsburgh-Orlando game, played primarily with replacement players, wasn't pretty and couldn't have been well received by fans, owners and a national television audience.

More information here. Tons of questions remain. More later.
