Tourney rolls on, WSU prepares for Wyoming

FROM PULLMAN -- So, after one day, it's been made obvious once again that my propensity to pick underdogs in the NCAA tournament will continue to inhibit my success in any bracket pools I enter. Oh well. Tomorrow (or today) is another day, right? We have a bit of WSU news, plus some Pac-12 links.

OK, so our WSU news is pretty scant. But we did have this blog post yesterday with the official dates and times of the Cougars' 15 spring football practices, beginning March 22 and ending April 24. Practices will be held Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, at 3:10 p.m. during the week and at 10:10 a.m. on Saturdays. Each spring practice will be open to the public (as will some fall camp practices, I would expect, but practice will close completely once it gets nearer to the start of the season). ... The WSU baseball team opens Pac-12 play in Tucson tonight against Arizona. ... Jerry Palm projects all of the 2012 bowl games, and doesn't include WSU.

Only one Pac-12 team was in action on Thursday -- the only one remaining that folks across the nation might still care about. 11th-seeded Colorado carried the banner for the Pac-12 (though I watched all of that game, and I didn't see a banner anywhere), assuring the conference would at least have a team in the second round (third round, I know, shut up) with a hectic 68-64 win over No. 6 UNLV. Buffs fans in Boulder liked what they saw.

Just one game involving a Pac-12 team on the docket today. Washington will host Northwestern in a second-round NIT game at 7 p.m. (ESPNU). The Huskies still don't sound as if they care. ... With California out of the tournament, the focus now shifts to Mike Montgomery's future. ... A couple Cal football stories: one about a quarterback, and one about the guys the quarterback throws to. ... Cliff Harris is still speeding -- err, seeking -- redemption. Some more from Oregon's Pro Day. ... Injuries have put BYU's spring game in jeopardy (WSU opens its season in Provo). ... Legal troubles in Tucson. ... Arizona State is getting a break from spring practices.

All for now. We'll be back later today with some comments from Ken Bone about WSU's upcoming game against Wyoming.
