Hoops, football about to overlap

FROM PULLMAN -- With the basketball team on the road in Corvallis and spring football practice about to begin, it figures that it would snow enough to muck up the roads in Pullman. It has until Thursday to burn off, or else WSU is going to be practicing in the white stuff. Read on, because we have plenty of links.

In the newspaper, we continued our series of assistant football coach profiles with a look at outside receivers coach Dennis Simmons. We also have a short advance of WSU's CBI semifinal game at Oregon State tonight. In addition to Vince's bit about the successes WSU has achieved on the basketball court this season, consider this -- Monday's win clinched the Cougars' sixth consecutive non-losing season (.500 or better). There has not been a longer such streak at WSU in 60 years. Think about that. ... We took a quick look at the running back position, as well as the receivers and tight ends, heading into spring practices. ... Mike Leach will be the keynote speaker at this event in the Tri-Cities. ... Here's an advance of tonight's game from the Oregon State side. ... Leach comes in third on this ranking of Pac-12 football coaches. ... That appears to be all the WSU news we have this morning.

There was only one Pac-12 game yesterday, but it involved two conference rivals. Washington beat Oregon, 90-86, to advance to the semifinals of the NIT in New York. The Ducks couldn't win this shootout.

In addition to WSU's game at Oregon State tonight (7 p.m., HDNet), Stanford hosts Nevada in an NIT quarterfinal at 6 p.m. (ESPN2).

In other Pac-12 news ... Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn is a popular topic in Salt Lake today. ... USC's Robert Woods will miss the rest of spring practice. A look at some Trojans who redshirted. ...
