A busy Saturday awaits

FROM PULLMAN -- Let's see, what's on the docket for this Saturday? Well, the Cougars hit the field at 10 a.m. for their second football practice of the spring. We'll be there. Then Ken Bone is meeting with reporters later in the afternoon. We'll be there, too. My only request is that the snow hold off until about, oh, I don't know, 1? That work for everyone else?

It's Day 2 of the Mike Leach Spring Practice Era (that's an unofficial working title). Leach said after Thursday's practice that he plans to introduce about another one-third of the offense today, so we'll see if that means more hesitation on the part of the players involved, or if the quarterbacks will still be quick on the trigger, as they were on Day 1 (to Leach's liking). Should be interesting to observe, also, how much more organized players are in terms of making their way from drill-to-drill in proper position. ... We posted the first of our spring video interviews, this one a short clip of senior receiver Gino Simone talking about the weight he lost since the end of last season. ... On the basketball side, we had a short non-update update about Brock Motum's ankle. As stated above, Bone meets with reporters later this afternoon and we'll have more then. He was out of town yesterday. ... CougCenter offers a primer on WSU's quarterback competition. ... The women's basketball programs in this state are trending upward. ... The Lubbock-Avalanche journal has been paying close attention to the beginning of Leach's tenure at WSU, and the paper chimes in with a Leach-related column questioning the value of a contract (appears as if you have to register to read it, though). ... has a primer on WSU's spring practice. ... The WSU baseball team dropped a 12-3 decision at No. 7 UCLA last night.

Around the Pac-12 ... Mike Stoops had some not-so-positive things to say about the way Arizona's football program is viewed at that university. ... Colorado's basketball coach turns his attention toward next season's schedule. ... USC has a quarterback competition -- for the backup spot. A Trojans DT responded to a demotion. ... Oregon receiver Josh Huff pleaded not guilty to DUII. ... BYU will test its depth during a scrimmage Saturday. ... Ted Miller busts out the mailbag.

All for now. We'll be back later today with considerably more.
