Starting another week with WSU

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — We're back on the Palouse, where WSU said that it canceled its scheduled Sunday practice — but it appears that it did indeed work out — and will take its usual day-off today. Coach Mike Leach and three players will meet with the media later today. And tomorrow, the basketball team plays its exhibition game against Saint Martin's. So lots to get to this week. We'll start with links. Read on.

UPDATE, 7:57 a.m.: Though WSU announced yesterday that it would not practice on Sunday night, the Moscow-Pullman Daily News is reporting that the Cougars did, indeed practice, and that receiver Marquess Wilson walked out of the workout after refusing to continue a push-up drill. We'll have more later this afternoon after coach Mike Leach speaks with the media. As we relayed on Twitter, WSU canceled its scheduled practice on Sunday night. That's not all that unusual — it happened last week, and a couple other times this season — but a bit surprising given Saturday's outcome. … Our story in today's newspaper focused on WSU trying to move forward from Saturday's debacle. … Bud Withers writes a bit more about Mike Leach's postgame explosion. … Jim Moore has some thoughts in this column. … From UCLA: The Bruins can't look past WSU to USC. UCLA's big win over Arizona was a blessing and a curse. … The Bruins opened as 14-point favorites over the Cougars. … And if you didn't catch it yesterday, Saturday's game has been selected for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN2.

Around the Pac-12 … Withers wraps up the weekend in the Pac-12. … Arizona didn't do anything well in its loss to UCLA. … Arizona State — one of WSU's remaining opponents — is trying to limit big plays defensively. … Cal got some good news on its quarterback, though he remains day to day. The Bears are preparing for Oregon. … This isn't how USC saw its season going. … Oregon State responded to a big-game setting. … Oregon's running back might be closing in on the Heisman. … Utah has a tougher road ahead now that WSU is out of the way. The Utes are starting to put everything together. … Colorado is also still playing football.
