Shifting focus on a Sunday

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN -- With WSU's football season officially in the rearview, our focus shifts -- however long it takes -- to basketball for the next 3-plus months. But there's some football news to pass along, too, and not the kind that we want to be writing about. Read on.

...

First, we recap last night's basketball game with our game story, a blog post with video, and our postgame tale of the tape. On the football side, we had this follow from the Apple Cup, as well as a blog post with some details of a fan apparently striking Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins after the Apple Cup. ... By the way, I called Valhalla yesterday to find out whether Mike Leach really did put a bunch of money toward paying for bar tabs there. I was told he did not. So there you go. ... Howie Stalwick also writes about the basketball game, and briefly about the Seferian-Jenkins incident, and also about WSU's football season. ... Todd Dybas explains how WSU completed its 18-point comeback.

There were football games yesterday ...

Oregon 48, Oregon State 24 -- The Ducks made it clear there would be no upset this week, and broke a school record in the process. Oregon State couldn't run the ball or stop the run. Jon Wilner slots the Ducks for the Fiesta Bowl.

Stanford 35, UCLA 17 -- These teams will play again next weekend for the Pac-12 championship. UCLA has a bunch of stuff to fix before that happens.

Notre Dame 22, USC 13 -- The Irish clinched a spot in the BCS national championship game, and the Trojans fell to an almost unfathomable 7-5.

There were basketball games yesterday ...

Minnesota beat Stanford, 66-63. ... Colorado State pounded Washington in Seattle, 73-55. ... Utah beat Wright State, 66-54. ... Cincinnati beat Oregon, 77-66. ... Creighton beat Arizona State, 87-73.
