Championship Friday in the Pac-12

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — Something tells me that moniker's not going to catch on. But today's game between Stanford and UCLA will, indeed, decide the Pac-12 championship, such as it is. We have stories about that, as well as our usual look around the league, after the jump.

If there were any justice in the world, the winner of today's game would be playing for a berth in a 16-team, single-elimination championship tournament. As an aside: how much more fun is NCAA '15 going to be than its predecessors once the playoff format is part of the game? … Yesterday was quiet on the Palouse, though we do have our final Pac-12 picks installment of the season to pass along. … Todd Dybas with a good look at safety concerns in the wake of the Apple Cup. Bill Moos is quoted. … UCLA is trying to stay home for the holidays. The Bruins need their quarterback to take control. … Stanford is led by a quiet freshman at quarterback. The Cardinal are still thriving, even without Andrew Luck. … Ted Miller has this look at the game at ESPN.com. … Here's an update on Washington's bowl situation. … The latest in the Jon Embree saga at Colorado. … A pair of California high-school standouts are sticking with Cal, for now. … USC will have a new defensive coordinator next season. … What's wrong with Oregon State's quarterback?

On the basketball side … Oregon rolled to a 95-78 win over Texas-San Antonio last night. … It's going to be a long road back for a Utah player. … Arizona is just about done warming up. … Bill Self and Craig Robinson meet again today in Kansas City. … UCLA isn't getting the fresh start it hoped for.

That's all for today.
