A Saturday without Cougar football

FROM PULLMAN — It comes 'round once per year — a Saturday during football season that doesn't include a Washington State football game. There is, of course, plenty of other Pac-12 action on tap, and the Cougars also practice later tonight. Read on.

We have a basketball note for you, as relayed on the blog yesterday: Shorewood High School forward Josh Hawkinson gave a verbal commitment to play basketball at WSU next season.

In Pac-12 action today …

Stanford (4-2, 2-1 Pac-12) at California (3-4, 2-2 Pac-12), 12 p.m., FOX — The Cardinal's offense needs to get going. Cal's star receiver wants to be a difference-maker in this one. Cal's not saying whether its speed will be an advantage (hint: it should be).

Colorado (1-5, 1-2 Pac-12) at Southern California (5-1, 3-1 Pac-12), 3 p.m., Pac-12 Network — It's hard to envision a scenario in which the Buffaloes could win this game. The Trojans could post some important milestones.

Washington (3-3, 1-2 Pac-12) at Arizona (3-3, 0-3 Pac-12), 7 p.m., Pac-12 Network — The Huskies need their offense to show up for once. It's a big game for both teams.

Utah (2-4, 0-3 Pac-12) at Oregon State (5-0, 3-0 Pac-12), 7:30 p.m., ESPN2 — Utah isn't intimidated by OSU's top-10 ranking, and are intent on competing with the Beavers. OSU fans aren't quite sure how to feel about their team's hot start.
