UNLV week is here

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — With Eastern Washington in the rearview mirror, Washington State turns its attention to another team it will be expected to beat, but can't look past. That'd be UNLV, and game week preparations begin in earnest today. Read  on.

Of course, WSU's offensive linemen would certainly argue that their preparation began yesterday. Judging by some tweets out there, it appears as if coach Mike Leach followed up on his declaration that the offensive line would be properly … erm … conditioned on Sunday after a bevy of holding penalties against Eastern Washington. … The Cougars didn't officially practice on Sunday night, but they will the next three days before departing for Las Vegas. Today, we'll be speaking with Carl Winston, Andrew Furney and Darryl Monroe at WSU's media availability, and will have the chance to talk with Leach later tonight after practice.

We filed a story setting up the week for today's newspaper, focusing on UNLV's struggles and the uncertainty at WSU's quarterback spot. … CougCenter has some interesting analysis of a few plays from Saturday's game. … Eastern Washington announced yesterday that Greg Herd, the receiver who was leveled by Deone Bucannon late in the fourth quarter, suffered a concussion on the play.

Around the Pac-12 … Washington swears its horrific offensive showing against LSU isn't indicative of its true talent, but when you have to come out and say it, well … Recapping Arizona's big takeaways on Saturday. … What was learned from Arizona State's win over Illinois. … Now that he's no longer a voter, Lane Kiffin doesn't care that USC dropped in the rankings. … UCLA cracked the rankings, too, but Jim Mora doesn't care about anything you want to talk about, OK? … The Bruins were part of a Pac-12 effort that made the conference look underrated. … Stanford showed improvement in its blowout win over Duke, but the task gets tougher this week. … Chickens, eggs, success and confidence for Oregon State after it manhandled Wisconsin. … Utah has a few things to fix as it prepares for BYU. … Not happy times in Colorado, but that's nothing new. … Oregon safety John Boyett will miss the rest of the season.

We'll be back later with plenty from WSU's media availability.
