What’s shaking?

A GRIP ON SPORTS

While trying to figure out what the heck this "Harlem Shake" thing is and why it is seemingly everywhere (and, to a lesser degree, trying to understand why everyone wants to be part of a crowd these days instead of being a non-conformist), I ran across a few sports stories. Read on.

••••••••••

• Before the Washington State game a few days ago, the marketing department or someone was putting together a "Harlem Shake" video. Like a lot of things, I didn't get it. But then again, I am not 23 anymore. But, what the heck, it's not all that important for someone with my role in life. What is important is that I run down a few stories for you to read everyday. Notice how I used the phrase "a few" this morning? That's simple. It's a Monday morning during the non-NFL portion of the year. So all we have is a few. You can find them below.

•••

• Gonzaga: Jim Meehan was able to put together his day-after blog post yesterday here in the beautiful Inland Northwest, thanks to Saturday's early game time. ... I found this short on Kelly Olynyk (pictured) a couple days ago but regrettably forgot to pass it along. ... BYU steps away from WCC play to make up a game with Utah State, the start of a tough stretch for the Cougars.

• Washington State: Christian Caple starts his workweek with a morning post, as per usual. ... The Cougar women are having a good season, but they can't figure out how to defeat last-place Oregon, whose only Pac-12 wins have come against WSU.

• Preps: The state basketball tournaments begin in Washington this weekend, though the new format means the first-round games are spread throughout the state and the losers don't make it to the official site a week later. Greg Lee has all the information in this story.

• Mariners: There is one story today that deals with Felix Hernandez's contract, but I couldn't handle having another day of the same poll question, so I caved. In case you missed it, I vowed to keep the Felix poll question up until I couldn't find a story on the contract. It's willpower like that which assures me of always being overweight. ... Spring training always features a story or two on a player needing to lose weight, but rarely one about a guy needing to go the other way, as Nick Franklin (pictured) does. ... Dustin Ackley wants to put last season in the rear-view mirror.

• That's it for now. Hope your week is a good one. Until later ...
