Gameday variety from WSU

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN -- There's another big game tonight at Beasley Coliseum, as Washington State welcomes the mercurial Colorado Buffaloes at 7 p.m. But we also have some other reading for you, so read on.

...

Our main story today focused on Klay Thompson, who a couple of us spoke with last week while the Cougars were in the Bay Area. Thompson had some interesting things to say about the state of WSU's program and where he sees it headed. We also had a very short preview of today's game against Colorado, along with a story and blog post covering the official announcement of David Yost as the football team's new inside receivers coach. ... Howie Stalwick has this preview box in the Kitsap Sun. ... Colorado practiced yesterday at Gonzaga, which made it difficult for the Buffaloes to ignore the fact their NCAA tournament hopes might be slipping away already. ... A letter-writer to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal thinks Texas Tech should pay Mike Leach the money he's owed. ... It's a big recruiting weekend for the Cougars, with 13 prospects in town on official visits, according to Scout.com. Taking a look at the list obviously shows that quite a few of those players are already verbally committed, though there are a few who WSU is still trying to sway. WSU has 23 known commitments so far.

Around the Pac-12 ... Full slate of conference games today, with every team in action. The day begins with Arizona playing at Arizona State (11:30 a.m., FSN) in perhaps the biggest game this rivalry has seen during the respective tenures of each school's head coach. ... That game is followed by what should be another good matchup, as Oregon plays at UCLA (1 p.m., CBS). The Bruins want to hold onto their second-half leads. ... There's another rivalry game this week, as California and Stanford get together (1:30 p.m., FSN). The point guard matchup will be key in that one. ... Oregon State plays at USC (5 p.m., Pac-12 Networks) with the Beavers trying for their first conference win. ... Washington hosts Utah in the late game (8 p.m., ESPNU). C.J. Wilcox, the Huskies' leading scorer, is starting to get more attention from NBA scouts. He's also a Utah native. One of the Utes' best players is building trust with his coach.

We'll be back before the game.
