Olynyk, Few honored

Gonzaga junior forward Kelly Olynyk has been named District IX player of the year and Mark Few was named coach of the year by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

Olynyk is the fourth Zag to receive the award, joining Dan Dickau (2002), Blake Stepp (2004) and Adam Morrison (2006). Saint Mary's Matthew Dellavedova was the only other WCC player selected to the All-District IX team. Seven Pac-10 players, including WSU's Brock Motum, and Long Beach State's James Ennis completed the 10-member team.

District IX encompasses California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.

Olynyk is a finalist for the Wooden Award and the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
