Starting to look at spring

COUGARS

FROM SALT LAKE CITY — We've got basketball on the brain this week, but are also trying our hand at double-duty as well. So that means a couple of football links for you from the road as WSU gears up for spring practices. Read on.

In the newspaper, we have a story about David Yost and what he plans to bring to WSU's offense this spring. On the blog, we have a brief preview of each of the Cougars' offensive positions. … One former Cougar met another in the Division-II Sweet 16 last night. John Allen and Western Washington emerged victorious over Patrick Simon and Seattle Pacific, though Simon had the better game.

Around the Pac-12 … Washington's season ended yesterday with a 90-79 loss to Brigham Young in the first round of the NIT. … Stanford, meanwhile, lived to play another day by holding off Stephen F. Austin, 58-57 at home. … California's point guard is finally starting to figure out his role. … A son hopes to avenge a game his father lost to UCLA years ago. … A seldom-used Colorado center could get some playing time in the NCAA tournament. … Oregon State coach Craig Robinson might need a turnaround next season to save his job. … Oregon's coach thrives on consistency. … A few spring football links … Utah is all about tempo as it begins practice. … USC's running back needs surgery for a torn meniscus. … Mike Riley previews Oregon State's spring.

Mike Leach meets with the media later this afternoon, and we'll call in and try to get some notes up on the blog.
