Gonzaga drops NCAA tourney opener
Chelsea Poppens, Hallie Christofferson and Brynn Williamson combined for 54 points and Iowa State shot 52 percent from the field Saturday afternoon during a 72-60 win over Gonzaga to open the NCAA tournament at McCarthey Athletic Center. Gonzaga's defense forced 23 turnovers and its bench outscored Iowa State 25-0, but the Bulldogs shot 32 percent from the floor, including 27 percent in the second half. Gonzaga finished 27-6, lost an NCAA tournament game at home for the first time and had its 15-game winning streak snapped. Story to come
