Where WSU stands in the stats

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — With three games under its belt, I thought it'd be a good time to look at where Washington State stands in the national stats rankings. As expected, the Cougars are faring quite well defensively.

Source: NCAA.org's WSU page.

Stat Rank Value
Total Offense 77 383.3
Rushing Offense 121 60.3
Passing Offense 17 323.0
Team Passing Efficiency 86 122.65
Scoring Offense T-72 27.3
Total Defense 11 268.7
Rushing Defense 76 169.0
Passing Yards Allowed 1 99.7
Team Passing Efficiency Defense 4 81.85
Scoring Defense 23 16.0
Turnover Margin 87 -0.3
3rd Down Conversion Pct T-68 0.400
4th Down Conversion Pct T-20 0.667
3rd Down Converstion Pct Defense 10 0.268
4th Down Conversion Pct Defense T-82 0.667
Red Zone Offense T-112 0.636
Red Zone Defense T-49 0.800
Net Punting 105 33.50
Punt Returns T-36 11.50
Kickoff Returns 17 27.25
First Downs Offense 51 62
First Downs Defense T-30 43
Fewest Penalties Per Game T-62 6.00
Fewest Penatly Yards Per Game T-57 49.00
Time of Possession 90 28

So WSU ranks in the nation's top 25 in four key defensive categories — pass defense (1st), pass efficiency defense (4th), total defense (11th) and scoring defense (23rd). They also rank 17th in passing offense, but just 86th in passing efficiency.
