WHL notes: Chiefs, Seattle may collide

This week's Western Hockey League notebook leads with the possible first-round playoff matchup between the Spokane Chiefs and Seattle Thunderbirds. Seattle plays at Spokane on Wednesday night and hosts the Chiefs in Kent, Wash., on Friday. Read story

The Eastern and Western conference standings will no likely shift in the next six weeks, but if the playoffs began today the other first-round matchups would be:

West: Tri-City vs. Kelowna; Everett vs. Portland; and Vancouver vs. Victoria;

East: Red Deer vs. Edmonton; Regina vs. Brandon; Swift Current vs. Calgary; and Kootenay vs. Medicine Hat.

In each case, the team listed second would have home-ice advantage. Seattle would hold home ice over Spokane.

Kelowna (West) and Edmonton (East) would be the top seeds.
