Morning links: College GameDay considers WSU

Washington State has long been a fixture on ESPN's College GameDay, where the Ol' Crimson flag has flown in 170 consecutive broadcasts, dating back to 2003.

One can only imagine how many WSU flags would fly in the background of a GameDay that was broadcast from Pullman, but perhaps we won't have to speculate much longer. The Oct. 31 game against Stanford is one of eight contests being considered by the GameDay producers for their Week 9 broadcast and if the Cougars and Cardinal both win next weekend, the Halloween game in Pullman seems like a pretty tantalizing matchup.

That's the thrust of today's WSU notebook. First, though, the Cougars (probably) have to take care of business against Arizona. So, we have a First Look at the Wildcats as well as the game notes. We also have the typical Monday press conference coverage, meaning video and transcription of Mike Leach and videos of Luke Falk, Jamal Morrow and Darryl Paulo. We also have a blog post about Shalom Luani winning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week. Stefanie Loh also wrote about GameDay coming to Pullman. Jeff Nusser looks back at WSU's big win.

For a closer look at WSU's opponent, the Arizona Daily star has articles about the uncertainty surrounding UA's quarterback situation, a column by Greg Hansen about what a real Tucson crisis looks like and reaction from coach Rich Rodriguez to a late start time next week.

Elsewhere in the Pac-12…

-- Washington quarterback Jake Browning is day-to-day with a shoulder injury.

-- The Pac-12 Blog's Chantel Jennings examines just how much better Oregon is with Vernon Adams.

-- Luke Falk is near the top of this week's QB rankings.

-- Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey might be the Pac-12's best player.

-- Bralon Addison does it all for the Ducks.

-- California will try to take advantage of UCLA's injury-ravaged defense.

-- Bonus Link: N.R. Kleinfield of The New York Times wrote a story about the lonely death of a lonely man in a lonely city.
