Morning links: WSU season begins today

In just a few short hours Washington State will kick-off its season (or maybe return a kick) against Portland State. Pass the time until then with some links.

At 10 a.m. I'll hold a pregame chat here on SportsLink. For now, I'll pass along our advance story about how the Portland State offense plans to keep WSU's new-look defense on its toes. Columnist John Blanchette weighs in on WSU's future football schedules. … The gents at CougCenter take a funny, if not entirely helpful look at the Vikings. … Stefanie Loh chronicles the QB rivalry that will be taking place in Martin Stadium today. … AP writer Nicholas K. Geranios also has a preview of today's game.

There were some Friday games in the Pac-12 this week. Washington's comeback at Boise fell just short, but Ken Goe liked what he saw from UW's young quarterback. Oregon State won its opener against Weber State, and Seth Collins won the starting quarterback job. John Canzano spent some time with the new Beavers coach after the game and has a column.
