Action heats up this week for Eagles

In some ways, this might be the defining week of fall camp at Eastern Washington. After 10 days on the grass practice fields, the Eagles are moving for good to Roos Field, which promised to be Inferno-ish for most of the week. Most telling is coach Beau Baldwin's comment Monday that Saturday's scrimmage will pit "the best against the best," and whatever that means for the depth chart. It's all here in the notes at the bottom of this story on the Eastern receivers, many of whom are fighting for playing time. By the way, that story and more can be found at our EWU football page. Also, don't forget to follow me on Twitter at @srjimallen. ... And if you're looking for info on opening opponent Washington State, we just happen to cover them as well, right here. ... Elsewhere, top-ranked North Dakota State (EWU's opponent on Sept. 10) is two weeks into fall camp. ... Fifth-ranked Northern Iowa also has high expectations, according to this story in the Des Moines Register. ... Finally, here's recent coverage of Montana football camp, courtesy of the Missoulian.
