Looking back at the spring game, plus links

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — Had a rather lengthy post written — taking a look back at Saturday's scrimmage, tons of notes, tons of links. Then my computer froze and I lost the whole thing, because I'm an idiot, mainly, and didn't save anything, and also because the universe hates me. Or it does today, anyway. Sigh. Read on.

(Spring) pregame from Albi

COUGARS

FROM SPOKANE — We're in the press box at Albi Stadium, where fans are enjoying the various concessions available, as well as some bouncy-house type activities for the kids. Pretty laid-back feel so far. More like a carnival than a football game, for the time being.

Shock win big outside

From the turnstile to the scoreboard, the Spokane Shock had a big night under the lights at Albi Stadium, routing Utah 76-49 to move one large step closer to the AFL playoffs.

Here's my game story that will run in Sunday's S-R. You can find Chris Anderson's photos here and John Blanchette's column. .

Half: Shock 49, Blaze 35

Spokane leads Utah 49-35 at half of the Joe Albi Summer Classic. Conditions are nearly perfect with temperatures in the 70s and a light breeze. An official crowd count hasn't been announced, but it's a sizable crowd and apparently folks were still buying tickets late in the second quarter.

Erik Meyer has tossed five touchdown passes, the last covering 11 yards to Emery Sammons with two seconds in the second quarter to expand Spokane's lead to two touchdowns. Meyer also has a rushing TD.

Utah's Todd Hammel, signed earlier this week, was impressive, completing 14 of 16 with four TDs. The game's lone turnover came when defensive back Alex Teems stripped the football from Blaze receiver Aaron Lesue early in the second quarter.

Shock, Blaze take it outside

Back with my Spokane-Utah game preview for Saturday's outdoor game at Albi Stadium. It will run in Saturday's S-R, but you can read it here. One note that didn't make the final version: newly signed WR Randy Hymes will not play, but figures to be in the lineup next week.

An interesting signing on the AFL website: Former WSU standout Chris Jackson, a longtime AFL standout, has signed with Arizona.

Shock take indoor game outside

Back with my article on the Shock's outdoor football game, set for Albi Stadium on Saturday, July 9. Here's a link.

Shock taking Arena game outdoors

The Spokane Shock play in the Arena Football League, but they've decided to take their sport outside for one game.

The Shock will entertain the Utah Blaze in the Joe Albi Stadium Outdoor Classic on July 9th. The game will follow all the rules of the arena game, but will be played outside on the artificial turf at Albi. Ticket prices range from $10 for upper level general admission to $75 for a sideline pass.

More here.

Blanchette: City drops snowball

Our columnist John Blanchette weighed in on the postponement of the semifinal games at Albi Stadium. I suspect a certain city employee has gotten a few nasty e-mails and voice mails the past couple of days. Anyway, here’s Blanchette’s column.

NOTE: I will be tweeting updates from the East Valley/Tumwater and Ferris/Bellarmine Prep games today as I receive them.
