Pac-12 basketball power rankings

From Pullman — The first third of the Pac-12 basketball season is over and the conference is starting to take shape. The Pac-12 has four teams that comprise the first tier, with a noticeable drop off in talent among the remaining squads. Some teams have been bitten by injuries, while others have had unexpected stars emerge. Arizona is clearly at the top of the conference, USC is clearly at the bottom and it's becoming apparent which teams will contend for spots 2-4 in the conference, and which won't.

Our Power Rankings took a look at where the Pac-12 stands today, after the jump.

WSU tries to salvage road swing at Arizona State

From Tempe — Washington State's 60-25 loss at Arizona on Thursday certainly wasn't ideal. But in a conference like the Pac-12, a road split is always a success, no matter how bad the loss was. With a win tomorrow at Arizona State, the Cougars will still come out of the weekend ahead.

ASU has a lot of talent in the likes of Jahii Carson, Shaq McKissic, Jordan Bachynski and others. But the Sun Devils have some weaknesses, too. They're No. 11 in rebounding differential and averaged just 0.1 more rebounds per game through the non conference schedule and their loss to Washington on Thursday.

Conversely, ASU has had a lot of success from behind the arc this season, and leads the Pac-12 with over eight made 3-pointers per game.

Our advance, in it's unedited glory, is after the jump.

Unit Grades: Arizona State

From Pullman — It wasn't a happy Halloween for the Cougars, who bring home a report card that would've gotten me grounded for a fortnight. By the time the first half mercifully ended there were scarcely 10,000 fans still in the stadium, and more snuck out during the break. The game was out of hand just minutes into the first quarter and no position group distinguished itself from the abominable performance.

It should be noted that the Sun Devils have been playing great of late, and most impartial analysts assumed that ASU would walk away with a double-digit win. But the Cougars weren't playing 'Bama on Thursday night and should've been able to make the game competitive for a few drives, at least, in the schools' first home game televised on ESPN since 1990.

Unit Grades are after the jump.

Sunday morning links

From Pullman — Just a couple of games for the Pac-12 on Saturday, and with a third of the conference on bye weeks there frankly hasn't been much news. But we've cobbled together some links.

Pac-12 power rankings: Week 9

Chaos and disarray reign supreme in the “Conference of Champions.” Utah beats Stanford, Arizona beats Utah. Cats and birds living together in perfect harmony. Is nothing sacred? For those of us who bristle at the idea of change and want our porridge to taste exactly the same every morning there is always old reliable Oregon to take solace in. Actually, Cal is pretty reliable as well. Everything in between, however, is a lawless anarchy. Bring order to your universe with our power rankings for week 9.
