Day after Loyola Marymount

I had a Bill Walton moment last night.

Walton frequently mentions during telecasts that one of the best parts of his job is meeting the parents of players. So after my last interview, I approached Sam Dower Sr., mainly to tell him that his son is one of the nicest kids on the planet. The elder Dower was appreciative and quickly relayed a story. He told me that numerous schools were recruiting Sam, many closer to the family's home base in Minnesota, but he was adamant that his son make his own decision, knowing it would make him happier in the long run. That piece of advice hit home, with two daughters contemplating their college choices.

Onward. A memorable night at the McCarthey Athletic Center, from Kelly Olynyk's guest appearance to Dower's 25 points and 15 rebounds to Brian Bhaskar's bring-the-house-down 3 in the closing seconds of GU's 86-67 win over LMU. Here's my game story, another from A.P. and an S-R photo gallery (great snap of Bhaskar above). Tom Clouse tackled the fan angle with an article on the Kennel Club and an accompanying photo gallery.

Day after Loyola Marymount

Typing away while keeping an eye on the Seahawks game (down 21-0 at half). I'm guessing there won't be an EWU-style comeback in the second half. Earlier I watched the replay of Gonzaga's 79-59 win over LMU and it's amazing how much you miss when you're jotting down notes, tweeting, etc. In case you missed S-R game story, here's a link.

Day after Loyola Marymount

Back with the day-after post following Gonzaga’s 77-62 victory over Loyola Marymount, the first half of which was better known as the Steven Gray Show.

The women’s links: S-R gamer, photos, game story on Saint Mary’s-Pepperdine in the Contra Costa Times, and a double gamers (SMC and Santa Clara) in the San Francisco Chronicle

More below on Gray, GU and thoughts from Saint Mary’s players and coaches after they dispatched Portland in Sunday’s nightcap.

Back at halftime of the women’s title game with an update.
