LMU beats Foster-less Broncos

Loyola Marymount did it again, winning its fifth straight WCC road game. The Lions knocked off Santa Clara 74-62 Monday behind Anthony Ireland's 25 points. LMU is 5-0 on the road, 0-2 at home (losses to GU and BYU).

The Broncos' Kevin Foster, who leads the WCC in scoring, didn't play due to a rules violation. Three Broncos who usually start, including guard Evan Roquemore, were held out of the starting five but did play, also for rules violations. Foster is expected to return Thursday.

-In case you missed it in my late post last night, I had a Gonzaga notebook in today's S-R, focusing on Guy Landry Edi.

-This showed up in my inbox this morning and it's an interesting read. An A.P. poll voter explains why he has GU ranked higher than Saint Mary's on his ballot.

Zag roundup

Several GU-related items around the net this morning.

—Sounds like Will Foster will make the roster of the D-League Idaho Stampede in Boise. Foster on his GU days: “There was a lot of frustration. It's a great program, but I found out I didn't fit into their system.” Stampede coach: “We're not developing Shaq here.” Ex-GU assistant Leon Rice (now at Boise State): “Will is all about potential. He oozes with potential.”

—Interesting scores of GU opponents (EWU-Hawaii) and ex-Zag coaches (Monson vs. Rice, 49ers vs. Broncos).

—Gonzaga is expected to return to the Maui Invitational in 2013, along with Arkansas, Baylor, Cal, host Chaminade, Dayton, Minnesota and Syracuse. GU won the 2009 event with victories over Colorado, Wisconsin and Cincinnati.

—A reminder to follow me on Twitter ( because everything on this blog ends up there, as well as numerous other items (such as Adam Morrison making a serious comeback.).

More on Portland, Foster

Tomorrow’s Four Corners page in the S-R will have a quick look at Portland, a couple of GU notes and a feature on reserve center Will Foster (No. 45). There’s also news that Matt Bouldin is a finalist for Lowe’s Senior CLASS award. More on that here.

Read on for much more.
