Healing Franks enjoys coaching job

Stanley Franks would rather be playing football. However, a horrific injury put an end to his playing days — at least for the short term — so Franks accepted a position as defensive backs coach with the Spokane Shock.

More on Franks' injury and how he's adapting to the coaching profession here.

Olson adds Franks, Harrell to staff

Andy Olson has completed his assistant coaching staff with the addition of Clay Harrell (OL, DL coach) and Stanley Franks (DBs). More on Olson's staff, returning players and AFL news here. (That's Harrell pictured above).

Franks, you may recall, suffered a serious knee injury last season with CFL B.C. Here's more on his recovery.

Franks signs with CFL team

Defensive back Stanley Franks, a key component on Spokane’s 2009 ArenaCup championship team, has signed with the B.C. Lions practice squad. The Lions have two games remaining and are in the CFL playoff hunt. Franks isn’t expected to play in the team’s next game.

Franks, a former Idaho Vandal, had a team-high 97.5 tackles, 18 pass break-ups and eight interceptions during the regular season. He also picked off a pass and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown in the Shock’s 74-27 rout of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the title game.

More here.

Franks catches on with Shock

The boss changed the schedule so my Stanley Franks feature will run in Thursday’s S-R. Which means you can take a look at it now (Wednesday afternoon). Read the unedited version below, and keep on reading to find a feature I did on Franks when he was a standout with the Idaho Vandals. (Franks is pictured in Shock game earlier this season and from a WSU contest during his UI days).

One quick note: Stockton apparently has re-signed quarterback Jimmy Collins, who attempted just two passes in six games with the Lightning. He also played one game for Central Valley, going 25 of 51 for 228 yards with four interceptions and three touchdowns. Collins likely will back up Chad Cavender, who emerged as the starter after Andy Collins was injured in a game against the Shock on April 25.
