Eags ready for challenge of repeating

Eastern Washington's defending NCAA Divisioin I football champions opened fall camp in Cheney on Wednesday, and most of the question directed at head coach Beau Baldwin and his players were about the possibilities of repeating last year's magical run.

Mitchell right answer for Eags’ QB question

By his own admission, Bo Levi Mitchell has yet to play his best game as Eastern Washington’s starting quarterback.  And that would seem to bode well for the future, considering the first-year junior transfer has helped put the Eagles in a late-season position they haven’t been in since 1997.

You can read the feature on Mitchell that ran in this morning’s S-R here. And don’t forget to check back later for an early look at the game advance for Saturday’s Southern Utah-EWU matchup that will run in tomorrow’s S-R.

With its offense struggling once again on Saturday, Eastern Washington took advantage of a horrible Sacramento State punt late in the game to put together a game-winning 35-yard touchdown drive and retain a share of the Big Sky Conference lead.

Looking back on EWU’s first scrimmage

Beau Baldwin was dealing with some mixed feelings Saturday afternoon after putting his Eastern Washington football team through its first scrimmage of spring drills.

The Eagles offense ran 55 plays, turning several into big gains, but coughed up the football four times.  You can read the scrimmage story that appeared in Sunday morning’s S-R here; you can check out what EWU’s sports information office had to say about the scrimmage here, and check out video highlights from both KREM and  KXLY.

I’ve included some personal thoughts below on Saturday’s scrimmage and EWU’s ongoing quarterback competition, along with some additional post-scrimmage comments from Baldwin and Bo Levi Mitchell.

Please read on, and feel free to leave any commments you might have on anything Eastern football right here.
