Shock, Keefe take on former coach

Spokane has won two straight after a 1-4 start. The Shock will try to keep their momentum going against the Pittsburgh Power, coached by ex-Shock coach Chris Siegfried. Here's my preview that will run in Saturday's S-R.

We mentioned Thursday that Pittsburgh put DL Terrence Carter on league suspension. Turns out that suspension lasted 24 hours. He's back on the active roster.

Siegfried takes over Power

As expected, Chris Siegfried (pictured above), who coached Spokane to an af2 championship in 2006, has been named head coach of the Pittsburgh Power. The Power are one of four new teams (though all have past AFL ties) beginning play in the 2011 season. Here’s more.

Elsewhere, Darren Arbet is back in the saddle with the San Jose franchise. He took the SaberCats to three AFL crowns in his previous stint.

UPDATE: Kansas City has a new coach and soon, a new nickname.

New Orleans is back in the AFL game, and the VooDoo already have a starting quarterback.

New Orleans back in the game, Shack, Siegfried updates

After months of rumors, the Bossier/Shreveport franchise is relocating to New Orleans, a Louisiana newspaper is reporting.

The team will take on the logo and nickname “VooDoo” that was used by the New Orleans’ AFL franchise from 2005-08. More here.

Meanwhile, it appears ex-Shock coach Chris Siegfried is in position to take over as head coach of the Pittsburgh Power, one of four new AFL teams for 2011. An announcement could come as early as tomorrow. More here.

Finally, former Shock coach Adam Shackleford has signed on to coach the Tri-Cities Fever for three more years. Read the story here. The Fever play in the IFL, one of indoor football’s minor leagues. Shackleford’s new deal stipulates that he can leave for an NFL, CFL or college job, but not for a position in the AFL.

Siegfried returning to Spokane

Former Shock coach Chris Siegfried will be back in town Saturday, trying to help Jacksonville beat Spokane as the Sharks’ offensive coordinator. I touched base with Siegfried (that’s him and Kyle Rowley pictured above in 2006) and filed an update on him and an assortment of Shock player moves (there’s more on the latter here).
