Updates on Heytvelt, Turiaf, Kong

Never thought I'd have occasion to put these three names in the same sentence, but here are updates on ex-Zags Josh Heytvelt, Ronny Turiaf and Bol Kong.

Links on Heytvelt, who left his team in Italy may be heading back to Turkey; Turiaf helping the Knicks to a big win over Portland; and Kong trying to get back on track in Canada.

Programming note: I'm putting together a feature on Mathis Keita for Thursday's Four Corners page. I'll post it later today.

Ex-Zags Daye, Turiaf open NBA season

Former Bulldogs’ Austin Daye and Ronny Turiaf had mixed results in their NBA season-openers.

Daye started and played 21 minutes, but only had four points (2 of 8 shooting) and three boards as Detroit blew a seven-point lead in the final two minutes and lost to New Jersey. More here, here and box here.

Turiaf came off the New York Knicks bench and scored eight points, grabbed four boards, blocked four shots and had two steals in 23 minutes. He left in the fourth quarter of the Knicks’ win with a sore back after accidentally colliding with teammate Amar’e Stoudemire. Turiaf also took a flagrant elbow to the face from the Raptors’ David Andersen. More here, here, here and box here.

Turiaf makes the walk

We posted earlier this week that ex-Zag Ronny Turiaf was going to walk during Sunday’s GU commencement ceremony. Turiaf walked and then talked to Shawn Vestal in an S-R article.

Bouldin honored, Turiaf graduating

A couple of items of interest tonight. Matt Bouldin was among the honorees at the Bulldog Club Senior Athletes Social on Thursday night. More on those awards here.

And ex-Zag Ronny Turiaf will be among 48 Zags student-athletes (including Bouldin, Will Foster and Chris Pontarolo-Maag) who will walk during commencement ceremonies on Sunday at the Arena. More here.
