Day after Xavier

I didn’t travel to Cincinnati but I put together a game recap of Gonzaga's 72-65 win over Xavier from the TV broadcast and the help of quotes sent by Gonzaga SID Oliver Pierce. And I put together a day-after Xavier post below.

Here are the game-story links: S-R and Cincinnati Enquirer. More good info on Xavier here.

Read on.

Gonzaga earns big road win

Gonzaga, playing just its second true road game of the season, knocked off Xavier 72-65 on Saturday in Cincinnati. The Bulldogs' sixth straight win hiked their record to 11-2 and could trigger a return to the Top 25 rankings. GU and Xavier (9-4) were receiving votes in the most recent polls.

Sam Dower delivered another big performance off the bench with 20 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes. Kevin Pangos had 13 points, seven assists and five turnovers. Elias Harris added 12 points and six rebounds.

Read on for the game recap I put together for Sunday's S-R. Here's an A.P. write-up.

Zags face full-strength Xavier

Mark Few isn't putting much stock in Xavier's recent three-game losing streak. The team wasn't at full strength following the suspensions from a brawl near the end of the Cincinnati game.

For the first time since thumping Cincinnati, the Musketeers will have their complete roster, just in time for the matchup with GU on New Year's Eve. The winner has a pretty good shot of returning to the rankings.

Here's my game preview.

Louisville upsets to fill Spokane Regional

There will be no rubber match between Gonzaga and Xavier in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament as the second-seeded Muskateers just got smoked down the stretch by seventh-seeded Louisville. Read one.

Gonzaga-Xavier game story

Back with my expanded game story from Gonzaga's 64-54 win over Xavier on Wednesday. You can read it here.

Check back tomorrow morning for a day-after post.

GU holds off Xavier

Quick recap below. I gotta run to get quotes for a write-thru.

Gray not suited up

Gonzaga's Steven Gray isn't suited up while his teammates go through pre-game drills for tonight's showdown with Xavier at 8. Gray left Saturday's win over Baylor with back spasms and didn't practice Monday or Tuesday.

No starters listed on the scoreboard as of 7:15.

View from Xavier

A couple of links prior to the Gonzaga-Xavier game: Previews in Cincinnati Enquirer and S-R, and a Blanchette column on Marquise Carter.

Sounds like Steven Gray wasn't able to practice Tuesday. He sat out Monday, too.

Zags, Musketeers meet in the MAC

Gonzaga faces Xavier in yet another tough non-conference match Wednesday night at the McCarthey Athletic Center. Here's my preview that will run in tomorrow's S-R.
