The Tech Deck

Four things to spend your PS Plus discount on

Editor's note: A previous version of this blog post listed Grim Fandango Remastered as a title to download during the Playstation Store sale. Sony announced later that pre-orders would not be discounted this weekend. Sorry, adventure fans. This blog has been updated to remove Grim Fandango from the list.

Sony announced today that a one-time, 10 percent discount will be offered on its Playstation Store content this weekend to make up for annoying outages over the holidays.

PS Plus subscribers who had an active account Dec. 25 will be eligible for the price relief, which begins at 9 a.m. Pacific on Friday. The outage hit both the Xbox Live and Playstation Network Services intermittently at the end of December. An 18-year-old English man was arrested earlier this month north of Liverpool in connection with the alleged hacking attack.

If you're a fan of our weekly free game series, you know we here at The Tech Deck like to save you cash. In that vain, here's five items you should consider downloading to get the most bang-for-your-buck this weekend (prices are before 10 percent discounts):

1) The JackBox Party Pack (PS3, PS4, $24.99)

This five-game package from Jellyvision is a no-brainer. Whether you're a Playstation 3 or Playstation 4 owner, you're likely looking for a local cooperative game to play at parties, but controllers and other peripherals are an issue. With the JackBox Party Pack, you can use a phone, tablet or computer to play alongside friends, and Lie Swatter - which involves picking out fact from fiction quickly - allows up to 100 people to play. Plus, you get a whole new version of You Don't Know Jack!

2) Minecraft (PS3, PS4, PS Vita, $19.99)

It's unlikely Mojang's unstoppable hit will ever get a price reduction, and a disc-based version of the Vita game isn't even available. Minecraft is a game of creation and exploration, and giant green former-pig enemies that are trying to kill you. Picking up the Vita version in this sale will allow you to take your PS3 game on the go, as the saves are transferrable across platforms.

3) Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea (PS3, $14.98)

You won't get much of a discount on this expansion for the brilliant add-on to Bioshock Infinite that usually sells for $20, but if you haven't played the episodes yet, there's no excuse to avoid them now. The two add-ons are already on sale on the Playstation Store this weekend, so add them to your cart for about 8 more hours with Booker and Elizabeth in Rapture.

4) Spec Ops: The Line (PS3, $4.49)

Another great single-player experience on-sale this week that you can double dip on, Spec Ops: The Line is revered for its stunning conclusion that puts the works of M. Night Shyamalan to shame. This third-person shooter can be had for even less than the $9 asking price on Amazon right now.
