Too Many Cooks

Spokane’s Flora yogurt is available for first time

Today’s the day for Flora Yogurt Co.

Its first batches of yogurt are for sale for the first time at Batch Bakeshop, which shares kitchen space with the small-batch yogurt-maker.

Début batches feature drinkable Bulgarian and Mediterranean heirloom yogurts, cultured buttermilk and Nordic Viili in reusable glass quart jars for $7.

Owner Karyna Hamilton of Spokane began making yogurt for friends and family and was soon producing some 60 quarts per month. A successful Kickstarter campaign helped cover the cost of a custom, 10-gallon pasteurizer.

Hamilton, who also manages Thursday Market in the South Perry District, has been working on  launching her yogurt business for the last year.

The bakeshop and yogurt company are located at 2023 W. Dean Ave. in Spokane’s West Central neighborhood. On the Web: www.facebook.com/floraayogurtcompany.
