Paintball has thousands of devotees across our region, so it's not news that more than a hundred showed up at Nitehawk Paintball near Ford, Wash., Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 for "Mortar Wars". But the players have such a good time, it's hard not to feel their enthusiasm.

Camp No Limits has a unique mission. The camp is for kids who are missing one or more limbs and its a place for them to feel normal, to learn about "limb deficiencies" and to learn about how far they can go in life in spite of small and large physical obstacles in their way.

Riverfront Park was awash in a sea of color and music as Native Americans honored the past and have hopes for the future of carrying on their traditions. Flute music used in this slideshow was recorded in the park as artist Judith Brownhawk performed for customers near her booth.

The story: Outdoors editor Rich Landers recently spent six days sea kayaking in the Johnstone Strait area off the northern Vancouver Island.

Sea kayaking in the Johnstone Strait area off northern Vancouver Island is about as close as a person can get to swimming with whales. Outdoors editor Rich Landers found this out recently as he joined Coeur d'Alene-based Sea Kayak Adventures for six days of paddling and camping in this marine paradise along the Inside Passage. The group had one ultimate goal: to have an intimate encounter with orcas - the sultans of the seas, also known as killer whales. And their goal was fulfilled.

The new, expanded Unity in the Community event in Riverfront Park drew thousands of people to the Cultural Village and performance stage. There was a spirit of friendship in the air as Pacific Islanders, Turkish people and African Americans shared dances with each other and laughed at each other's foibles.

The Good Guys 7th Great Northwestern Nationals brings over 1000 top flight cars for the weekend at the Spokane Fairgrounds and Expo Center. We talked to a few car owners about why they do it.

He was the chief of a police force of one. Jason Felton fit in well as the top cop in Hayden Lake, a small town on the edge of Hayden. He was well-liked for his easy-going manner and cheerful demeanor. So when he lost his battle with ALS, also called Lou Gehrig's disease, his fellow officers from other departments bid farewell to him Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, with honor guard and other traditions befitting a law enforcement officer.

The first day of Skyfest 2008 had something for every aviation junkie. There were biplanes, cargo planes, helicopters and acrobatic planes. But the stars of the show were the fighter jets, pulling maneuvers that the Wright brothers couldn't even dream of when they made their first powered flight 105 years ago. The F-15, the Blue Angels F/A-18 and the F-22 wowed the large Skyfest crowd with maneuvers of awesome power and speed.

Although the F-22 Raptor, the newest Air Force fighter aircraft has been around for a few years, the 2008 Skyfest is the first time Spokane area residents will get to see it fly. Major Paul Moga, a Raptor pilot, talks about what the Raptor means to the Air Force. He will fly the 12-minute demonstration flight at Skyfest.
