Quotes of the Week

Quote 1:
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view--until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.
Said by Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee

Quote is here.

What do you think this says about Harper Lee's outlook on life? Do you agree with Atticus's observation? What do you do to really understand a person?

Quote 2:
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight, I'm
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it

Lyrics from the REM song 'Losing My Religion.'

Lyrics are here.

Have you ever struggled with something that seems insurmountable? It doesn't have to be religion, maybe something else, like a death in the family or a horrible breakup. Do you ever feel like you are both alone and in the spotlight?

Quote 3:
People are sending suggestions. And we're taking it all under advisement.
President-elect Barack Obama about his family's search for a dog that won't aggravate his daughter Malia's allergies.

Quote is here.

Any ideas for the First Dog? I say a Labradoodle or a little dog.

In 2006, then-editor Steve Smith of The Spokesman-Review had the idea of starting a publication for an often forgotten audience: teenagers. The Vox Box was a continuation of the Vox, an all-student staffed newspaper published by The Spokesman-Review. High school student journalists who staffed the Vox made all content decisions as they learn about the trade of journalism. This blog's mission was to give students an opportunity to publish their voices. The Vox Box and the Vox wrapped up in June 2009, but you can follow former staffers' new blog at http://voxxiez.blogspot.com.
