Who’s Running?

Today is the day, folks! Stretch those calves! Double-knot those laces!  Got your Powerbar? Good…because today is Bloomsday.

So who is running Bloomsday this morning? Ever run in the past? What’s the best part? The worst? (I hear there’s a pretty nasty hill….)

Yeah I didn't run it haha. I'm at home doing homework. But I've done it before and it's a blast. I usually run with some friends and it's great. And Doomsday hill is pretty bad. A lot of people say it's no big deal, but it's bad when you run it. It's a gradual hill so it hurts when you don't expect it.

Ah yes. Doomsday Hill. *grins* Can't imagine why they call it that… can you? jk…

I wish I could've done it. I have yet to participate in Bloomsday in all the years I've lived here. I'm hoping to do it next year…

I just didn't have time to train for it this year. :) But!… from what I've heard… it is definitely a lot of fun. (A bunch of us should do Bloomsday together next year!)

I ran Bloomsday this year (you don't need to train to do it—I didn't), and the hardest part isn't Doomsday Hill, the hardest is right around Greenwood Cemetary, where you have a mean sideache and the end isn't near at all. Doomsday is fine because it's a symbol that the race is almost done.

Another hard part is the last stretch on Broadway, because it looks a lot shorter than it is in reality, and by that point running absolutely sucks.

The best part is running shorts and the feeling afterwards.

Ya - I didn't run it either. Actually, this year of hanging out by the concert-stand with a Thomas Hammer was my first 'Bloomsday' experience. I've never even been to Spokane on race day before…:). But it was fun - a really cool atmosphere.

Rae, I'm totally up for runnin' it next year! (haa - or at least joining up and getting another coffee…:D)

About this blog

In 2006, then-editor Steve Smith of The Spokesman-Review had the idea of starting a publication for an often forgotten audience: teenagers. The Vox Box was a continuation of the Vox, an all-student staffed newspaper published by The Spokesman-Review. High school student journalists who staffed the Vox made all content decisions as they learn about the trade of journalism. This blog's mission was to give students an opportunity to publish their voices. The Vox Box and the Vox wrapped up in June 2009, but you can follow former staffers' new blog at http://voxxiez.blogspot.com.
