Parkinson’s summit scheduled

The Parkinson’s Resource Center is having a daylong Parkinson’s Power Summit focusing on education and empowerment that includes speakers and workshops Sept. 6 at Northern Quest Resort and Casino in Airway Heights.

The summit is for Parkinson’s affected community members, family, friends, providers and caregivers. Preregistration is required.

Keynote speaker is Ben Petrick, a retired catcher for the Colorado Rockies who has young onset Parkinson’s and is the author of “Forty Thousand to One.” Other speakers are Jason Aldred, a neurologist and movement disorder specialist with Northwest Neurological who will talk about the latest treatment updates, and Ruth Palnick, a local chaplain with Parkinson’s.

The workshops include Wellness and Joy thru Music, an LSVT Big Program – a treatment used by physical and occupational therapists – and a session on Balance, Gait and Cognitive Connection for people with Parkinson’s.
