Nadine Chapman Reading by Jim Hunt

Hunt is a Whitworth professor emeritus of history who will read from his latest book, “Restless Fires: Young John Muir’s Thousand-Mile Walk to the Gulf in 1867-68.” Muir was a leading environmental thinker of the early 20th century, founder of the Sierra Club and a key leader in establishing Yosemite, Rainier, Olympic and Glacier Bay national parks. In addition to his reading, Hunt will give a presentation on Muir’s journey with images from Muir’s original journal, photographs of Muir as a young man and photographs of the route Hunt took on his 2007 research trip as he retraced Muir’s steps. Hunt – who co-founded The Krista Foundation for Global Citizenship – taught American, Latin American and world history at Whitworth for more than 35 years.
