Northeast Neighborhood Clean Up 2013
Bemiss, Hillyard and Whitman neighborhood councils have again combined to have an annual spring lean-up and partner again with Serve Spokane. The clean-up funds provided by the city of Spokane help to make our community safer and healthier. This year’s event will be from 9 am to 12 pm at 4106 N Cook, Shaw Middle School. Neighborhood churches and other organizations are encouraged to form crews of 5-6 people to help clean the yards of friends, neighbors, relatives, etc., needing assistance with lawn raking, litter pick up, etc. and hauling away refuse. Consider adopting a neighbor and make the activity an annual event. Remember the goal is to improve the whole community. Trucks are needed as well to bring the collected waste to the Shaw Middle School parking lot.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own refuse to Shaw. Abuse of the program has again forced us to make exceptions of items accepted. The following items will be refused: tires, auto batteries, hazardous materials, large furniture, major appliances, air conditioners, mattresses and box springs. No exceptions.
The popular dump pass program is continued this year for those who want to take refuse to the energy plant. Passes will be available the day of the event and at the COPS Northeast Shop at 5208 N Market St. Passes are good from April 20 to May 3. Proof of residence in Bemiss, Whitman, or Hillyard neighborhoods is required.
