“Gender, Girls, Identity and Early Childhood Development”

How is sexuality is impacted by gender and scripts of love? Bina Walker, triple major in women’s and gender studies, economics, communications major and McNair Scholar, examines gender identity from young children through adolescence. Girls of all ages, whether in elementary school or junior high school, experience interactions that shape who they are as adult women. Using Peggy Orenstein book titled, “Schoolgirls,” Walker will discuss the impact of gender identity development in connection to young girls suppression of their sexuality. She will also discuss how gender and identity are formed through social constructs and social interactionism. Sponsored by EWU Women’s Studies Center.
