2013 Lavender Graduation
Sponsored by the Eastern Washington University Pride Center, the Lavender Graduation is a cultural celebration for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) students and their allies, to acknowledge their academic achievements and raise awareness about the contributions that they have made to their respective schools and to the community at large. The keynote speaker is Kye Allum, a graduate of George Washington University, and an African American, transgender athlete, who made history by coming out as the first transgender basketball player to play openly on a Division I women’s basketball team. Allly awards will also be presented to faculty, staff, fellow students and family members who have shown support, encouragement and inspiration to the graduates along the way. Graduates from Spokane area high schools, colleges and universities are invited to participate in the ceremony.
