The U.S. uses far less coal than we did in the early 1900’s, yet since then has expanded economically to become the largest economy on the globe. The idea that reducing its use even further would mean a loss of jobs isn’t supported by history.

It’s kinda unfair to characterize the Boehner led House as lazy. The work they have accomplished makes them the most “conservative” since voting records were catalogued.
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/03/19/446680/most-conservative-congress/
You’d think with all that ultra-conservatism foaming forth from the GOP house all would be well in the U.S. We’d be at full employment, no debt, every citizen with possibilities to reach their potential.
From the article: “In the last few weeks, ThinkProgress has been documenting studies by political science professors Keith Poole and Howard Rosenthal that show Republicans are both beholden to the 1 percent and responsible for the hyper-polarization of Congress. A new study by Poole has found that Republicans have moved so far to the right that the House is now the most conservative it has even been in the last 133 years.
Poole’s graph shows that when the Republican Party gained a majority in 2010, they brought the median of the House into a realm of ideological extremism not seen before. For comparison, when the Democratic Party held a majority from 2006 to 2010, the House median made a small move to the left (-0.2) — equal to the level of a moderate Democrat. But when the Republican Party took over in 2010, the House median more than tripled (.43) along the ideological scale.
Considering approval ratings for Congress are hovering around 11% — lower ratings than the IRS, lawyers, and even Nixon during Watergate — a recent poll shows that Americans still disapprove of congressional Republicans more than Democrats. In fact, under Democratic majorities the House median hasn’t passed the level equal to a moderate Democrat (-0.2) in the last 100 years. Meanwhile, just in the last 20 years alone, the House median under Republican control has been above that moderate level on the conservative side (0.2) for approximately 10 years.”
11% approval rating but the GOP is gonna take the country by storm in November.
Bagger, please.

cpd805 on Romney unfit for office on May 28 at 2:31 p.m.
You libs are sooo hypocritical. Romney allegedly partakes in a bullying incident FIFTY YEARS ago, and he is now unfit for office? Then surely you believe that Ted Kennedy was unfit for office, after all he did KILL SOMEONE. Barney Frank ran a PROSTITUTION RING out of his apartment and he still holds office (for now). Our beloved president Barak Obama wrote of himself “enthusiastically” doing drugs in high school (well, I assume many of you libs also partake), yet you will be “enthusiastically” voting for him in November.
There are two key differences between Romney’s alleged incident and the incidents perpetrated by the libs above:
1. There is no definitive evidence Romney’s incident even occurred. Romney (says he) does not remember it, but neither does the family of the victim. Granted, if it happened, Romney remembers it, but it also stands to reason that the family of the victim would remember their loved one being terrorized so greatly.
2. Although saying he does not remember any such incident, Romney has been apologetic about it. The libs above have been largely unapologetic and dismissive.
Vote for whomever you wish in November. But if you base your vote on something that may or may not have happened FIFTY YEARS ago, then maybe you are unfit to vote.
7BSoulja on Guest opinion: War on coal threatens jobs on May 28 at 2:31 p.m.
There is a major premise of the author’s argument that is flawed:
“A PEIS is historically reserved for assessing the broad national impacts of a federal action or a new federal policy. But the activists want to apply that same scope of review to a local shipping terminal.”
These proposed coal exports DO constitute an unprecedented increase in coal mining, shipment, and export. Currently, there are no coal export facilities in the western US. At least six export facilities are proposed there, and two of them are proposed to be the largest on the CONTINENT!
At least 20 communities along the rail route recognize this and have made formal statements asking for a full environmental review of the broad national impacts these projects could have.
The City of Sandpoint, ID unanimously passed one such resolution. Below is an excerpt.
“The City of Sandpoint urges the Army Corps of Engineers to prepare a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement - in accordance with NEPA and the US Supreme Court ruling of Kleppe v. Sierra Club (1976) - that includes Bonner County.”

Has a sitting State elected official ever been Idaho State GOP Chair? I suppose there’s nothing that says they CAN’T, but (at least one would hope) the duties of their offices would take away so much of their time that they wouldn’t be able to be an effective State Chair. Factor in the party infighting, and we are going to NEED someone who can devote a significant amount of time to mending fences, and playing grown-up in the local and regional school-yard-type squabbles.
Lori Otter? I highly doubt it. Obviously, she would be seen as too close to the Governor - basically his proxy - and I don’t think the Otters would want to risk the embarassment of the possibility having her roundly trounced in a contest for State Chair.
As an aside, I’m somewhat curious as to why the Statesman interviewed LeeAnn Callear, from Region II, for the article rather than someone from a Region with more delegates.

“Polls are showing a huge amount of Americans are concerned about Obama.”
True… As far as it goes. A “huge” number of Americans are apparently concerned about Obama. Specifically; latest poll averages say about 43.6% are concerned enough to support Romney’s candidacy.
And about 45.4% - same averages - are concerned enough about Romney to support Obama. Which is a slightly more “huge” number. A slightly more huge number that, with the exception of one week in early October, 2011, has been consistently in Obama’s favor.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html
As for Wisconsin…whats it also say about the governor that he has brought in more the $25 million from out of state and also cannot pull ahead. You all love to talk about union money influencing elections, what about like corporate money from out of state corporations that don’t even do business in the state? At least the unions are looking out for their workers IN STATE, while the corporations are looking out for their buddy stripping workers rights allowing businesses to continue paying workers as little as possible while they make more money than at any other time in history.
Also, early voting has already started and turn out in democratic places has far exceeded those in republican strongholds in Wisconsin. Turnout will mean everything in this election, don’t count on the polling that is done by companies paid by both political sides calling mainly landline phones that many people don’t even have anymore.

First we heard about cruelty to the family dog. Later, when we heard about the bustout by Romney and Bain Capital at Worldwide Grinding Systems, many wondered if Romney might be a sociopath. The sheer evil required to pull off the “Romney Scheme” at Worldwide Grinding Systems may cross the line of ordinary evil and be indicative of a mental disorder. This week we read in the Spokesman of a similar “Romney Scheme” done to Ampad.
The cruelty in this hazing incident, and Romney’s failure to even remember it, does nothing to dispel concerns that the World’s Most Famous Bustout Artist may be a sociopath.
