COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — The Cougars will atempt to do something today they haven't done since 1993. Right now, I'm doing something I haven't done in about 24 hours. Writing a morning post. Read on for today's Pac-12 hoops rundown.

It's true. Washington State hasn't beaten UCLA in Pullman since 1993, a streak that began before two members — DaVonte Lacy and Chuks Iroegbu — of this year's squad were born. We have a very short preview of the game in this rail item here. Of note: Josh Smith, UCLA's 6-foot-10 center who comes off the bench, scored 24 points and snagged nine rebounds in a loss to Washington on Thursday. The Cougars were able to play with a small lineup against USC on Thursday night, but will have to do the exact opposite against Smith. Although, according to this story in the LA Times, the Bruins will be without the equally tall Travis Wear, who sprained his ankle against the Huskies. Look for D.J. Shelton to be much more involved after sitting the entire game against the Trojans. … Here's a UCLA notebook from the Orange County Register. … Bud Withers ranks the Pac-12 schools in order of hype assigned to their recruiting classes by their respective head coaches. … Today's game is on Root at 2 p.m., by the way.

Today's Pac-12 matchups …

Arizona at Stanford, 12 p.m. (FSN): The Wildcats get better by talking it out. Arizona's assistant coach says his scuffle with Jorge Gutierrez was simply a matter of reflex.

Arizona State at California, 2 p.m. (CSNCA): Other than Trent Lockett hoping to return next week, not much else out there on this game.

Oregon State at Utah, 2 p.m.: Utah's coach thinks the Beavers are probably better than their record. OSU at least made it out of Boulder. The Utes are much better at home.

Oregon at Colorado, 6 p.m. (Root): The weather is so bad in Boulder right now that the Ducks are having a heck of a time getting there.

USC at Washington, 8 p.m. (FSN): Tony Wroten is “50-50” to play in this one. Regardless, the Trojans will keep bombing away from 3-point range.

We'll be back later with a pregame post from Beasley.

  • When is the coug game? I actually really like game time and information summaries below and it would be nice to just do every game even if its in the notes above. My opinion only thoguh.

  • Beiron, game time is 2:00.

  • Beiron, have you ever thought of looking at the WSU Athletic site for that information?

Beiron — That’s not a bad idea. I’ll take that into consideration, though in this case, the game time is noted at the end of the first paragraph after the jump. Thanks for the input.

  • Thanks, 90% of the time I’m reading the posts on my 4 year old phone so sometimes I miss the in paragraph notes. Thanks for stepping in and keeping the cougar news going.
