Brett Kingma announces transfer to WSU via Twitter

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — With the Washington State basketball team still in Australia, it might be awhile before this is officially confirmed. But former Oregon guard Brett Kingma announced on his Twitter page this afternoon that he will be transferring to WSU.

Kingma was granted his release by Oregon in early June. He will have to sit out this season per NCAA transfer rules — though intra-conference transfers are sometimes forced to sit two seasons, that rule is rarely enforced and my assumption would be that it won't be here — and should be available to play as a redshirt sophomore in the 2013-14 season.

Kingma, who is from Mill Creek, Wash., was rated as a 3-star prospect by Scout.com and held offers from Washington and Arizona State, among others. He averaged 3.1 points per game for Oregon last season as a lightly-used reserve, averaging 9.1 minutes per game.

Kingma told the Seattle Times after leaving Oregon that "I need a new system where I can reach my full potential."

We will pass along more information as it becomes available.
