WSU vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff pregame

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — In case you'd forgotten after yesterday's events, there's a WSU basketball game today. The Cougars and Arkansas-Pine Bluff get underway from Beasley Coliseum here in about 10 minutes. We have some quick notes for you.

– DaVonte Lacy isn't playing again today, though there is no official update from WSU beyond that. We haven't spoken with coach Ken Bone since Tuesday's loss to Texas A&M, so perhaps he'll have more information on Lacy after today's game.

– A key for WSU tonight, and every night: Royce Woolridge can't get in foul trouble. He did against Texas A&M, and that forced Mike Ladd to move over and handle point-guard duties for a lot longer than the Cougars would have liked. Bone admitted WSU is asking Ladd to do a lot, considering he already starts and plays big minutes as one of WSU's wings. So it's hard to ask him to run the offense in addition to that. Bone said he tries to offset some of that by running offensive plays that don't require Ladd to move as much in an attempt to get him a little rest without taking him out of the game. But the bottom-line is this (especially with Lacy out): Woolridge can't get in foul trouble, because the depth just isn't there right now.

– WSU has never lost to a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Cougars are 15-0 all-time against SWAC schools.

– UAPB shoots just 36.2 percent from the field and 23.4 from 3-point range. The Golden Lions are led in scoring by 6-foot-8 forward Davon Haynes, who averages 13.5 points per game.
