WSU trying to turn the page

FROM PULLMAN — It's Monday. A new week. And, with nine conference games behind them and nine more until the end of the regular season, it's a new half-season for the Washington State Cougars. With that, we pose a question. Read on.

That question: How many wins do you need to see from WSU during the second half of the Pac-12 schedule in order to feel encouraged about the direction of the program? Do you already feel encouraged? Is it less about total wins and more about the quality of basketball? What's a reasonable final record to expect? OK, so that's more than one question. But there isn't a whole lot else to link to this morning, so what the heck. Respond in the comments section. … The WSU women's basketball team did something yesterday it hadn't done in quite some time, completing a road sweep in the desert with a 60-50 win over Arizona. … Braulio Perez reports that WSU received a commitment yesterday from a long-snapper, Jerred Sonneborn, who will join the Cougars as a preferred walk-on. …  Solomon Hill with some pretty pointed words about a couple of WSU players in this story about the need to resist retaliation. … Brock Motum makes Greg Hansen's all Pac-12 team at the halfway point.

Around the Pac-12 … There was one game yesterday. Stanford knocked off Oregon State, 81-73, to send the Beavers to a 1-8 start in Pac-12 play. The Oregonian looks at some of the Beavers' numbers. … Colorado is trying to bounce back from a rough loss at Utah on Saturday. … Speaking of Utah, what might be next for the Utes? … A football link: Washington picked up a commitment from an offensive lineman yesterday.

That's all for now.
