FROM SPOKANE — By the time this posts, we'll already be at the airport, headed to Los Angeles for Washington State's trip to USC and UCLA. But it just wouldn't be Feb. 7, 2013 if we didn't recap yesterday's signing festivities. Read on.


Our story for today focused on the unexpected battle WSU had to fight over quarterback Tyler Bruggman yesterday, who ultimately signed his letter for the Cougars. On the blog, we had a rundown of Mike Leach's evaluations of each recruit, as well as a post with video and more comments from Leach. Around the Pac-12 … Arizona coach Rich Rodrigued signed a class full of his kind of guys. … Likewise, Arizona State emphasized bringing in the right people. Because bringing in the wrong people wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. … Washington missed on a few big prospects, but still wound up with a highly-ranked class. … It was a stress-free day for Stanford, which signed 12 players. … California worked on shoring up both sides of its line on signing day. … UCLA signed a highly-rated class, but the Bruins hope that's just a starting point. … Signing day was about quality over quantity for USC, which lost a little of both in recent weeks. … Utah's class was highlighted by quarterbacks and running backs. … Colorado went and found some players from California. Then they signed them. … Track stars are included among Oregon State's class of 21 players. … Oregon made out more than OK in its first signing class under new coach Mark Helfrich.

In Pac-12 basketball news … There were two games yesterday. Oregon State got a much-needed win over Utah, 82-64. The Utes' bigs didn't get the job done. … Arizona held serve at home, beating Stanford, 73-66. … There are three games today besides WSU at USC. Washington travels to UCLA for a crucial road game (6 p.m., ESPN). The Bruins need to defend their home court better. … California travels to Arizona State for a 6:30 p.m. game (Pac-12 Networks). ASU's 3-point specialist is displaying a new dimension of his game. … Colorado is facing a tough road test at Oregon tonight (7 p.m., ESPNU). The Ducks are trying to control their turnover problems.
