Day after Oregon (again)

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — For the sixth consecutive game, it's an unhappy recap for Washington State. But it's a recap nonetheless, and you can keep reading if you'd like.

Our game story in today's newspaper focuses on another overtime loss to Oregon for the Cougars, and another close loss that could have been a win. On the blog, we had our usual tale of the tape and some video from WSU Athletics of the postgame interviews. … Howie Stalwick covered the game for the Kitsap Sun and wrote this story. … Vince Grippi covered the game for the Oregonian and wrote this story focusing on the spate of wild finishes between these teams at Beasley Coliseum in the last decade. … Here's the AP story (sort of), which notes that E.J. Singler was “shocked” to be fouled by Dexter Kernich-Drew.

Around the Pac-12 … There was actually a Pac-12 game last night that was more thrilling than WSU's. That was Arizona State's 63-62 win over Colorado, which came courtesy of an Evan Gordan layup at the buzzer. … Washington's leading scorer broke out of his slump to help the Huskies to a 72-62 win over Oregon State. … UCLA's freshmen came up big in a 88-80 victory at Stanford. The Cardinal dropped below .500 in conference play. … Utah is embracing the challenge of hosting No. 9 Arizona tonight (noon, Pac-12 Networks). Utah has improved, and Arizona wants to do the same defensively. … USC is hoping it can contain California guard Allen Crabbe today (7 p.m., FSN). The Bears are starting to peak at the right time.
